Anne Scott was about four when the Faulkner’s invited us to walk down and see their grandson who was in town visiting from Tennessee. We weren’t sure if An would have food, so we took along a bowl of these beans just in case Anne Scott got hungry. Anne Scott was so funny when she asked Graham if he wanted to share her beans. We have been making these for many years.
Never, I repeat never discard your hambone. Take off as much the ham as you can then freeze your ham bone in a zip lock bag for later use. A good ham bone makes the best soup or pot of beans.
Ham and 15 Bean Soup
Ingredients:
1 ham bone you have stored in the freezer, thawed
1 package 15 Bean Mix
2 onions, chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1 large can diced tomatoes
Several dashes of hot sauce
Directions:
Begin by trimming off as much fat as you can from the ham bone. Set aside. In a crock pot, add the package of beans, onions, and tomatoes and the bean seasoning package. Nestle your ham bone down into the beans as much as you can. Generously cover the beans with water. Cook on low about 8 hours until beans are tender. Serve alongside Sonia's Vidalia Onion Cornbread.
